Credit unions in Portland, OR, and southwest Washington recently pledged $5 million to help fund the construction of the OHSU Gary & Christine Rood Family Pavilion at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

The Family Pavilion will be a five-story guest house for OHSU and OHSU Doernbecher patients and families who have to travel long distances to get to the hospital. Families like the Carrions from Bend, OR, are exactly the kind of families the Pavilion will serve. Five-year-old Tristan Carrion is currently battling a rare form of cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma. He and his family live 150 miles from the hospital, so having a place like the OHSU Gary & Christine Rood Family Pavilion will be a great benefit to families like his.

The $5 million pledge was given on behalf of Credit Unions for Kids, the brand under which America’s credit unions fundraise for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.  Doernbecher Children’s will use the pledged funds over seven years for the construction of the Pavilion.  A floor of the Pavilion will be named in honor of CU4Kids’ 30 years of partnership and support for the hospital.
