Newly crowed Miss Oregon, Shivali Kadam, from the Miss America Organization spent some time volunteering during the Costco campaign this May. Following her time she guest authored the below blog post regarding her experience!

“One of the greatest gifts that comes with earning a title in the Miss America Organization is the chance to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the Miss America national platform. While every titleholder fundraises for her local CMN hospital independently throughout her year of service, corporate fundraisers provide unique opportunities to truly see the impact Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals have in our communities.

This was precisely what Kiana and I experienced when we volunteered alongside Brody at the Portland Costco for Costco Cares. While our time with Brody was limited, it took us no time at all to realize that he was limitless. At the age of thirteen, he has already persevered through thirteen brain surgeries, over thirty angiograms, and countless MRIs. Now, he uses his story to support children like him by selflessly volunteering his time with CMN events. While approaching folks for donations in

any setting can be daunting, Brody was not only fearless in his approach but flawless in his delivery.

After this event, Kiana and I were excited to not only walk away with a better understanding of the life-changing work that happens at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, but with a new friend whose passion continues to inspire and motivate us in our own fundraising efforts. We are grateful to Costco and its employees for going above and beyond to support Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.” – Shivali Kadam, Miss Oregon 2019
